Clay Buckner has been playing music since the early 70’s, beginning with a folk rock group known as “Fried Chicken and Watermelon” operating out of Boone, NC. He began learning the fiddle in 1973, and devoted many years to the exclusive playing of traditional fiddle music, during which time he was a founder of the Coffee’s Gap Corklickers and the Piedmont Serenaders. A later interest in Celtic traditional music led to the formation of Touchstone with Triona Ni Dhomnaill, and an invitation to join the Red Clay Ramblers in 1980. Disparate influences continued to find their mark, and the string swing quartet Fiddle-X was formed in the fall of 1986 with local legends Don Mercz, Robbie Link and Barney Pilgrim. These days Clay is enjoying the playing of "Stwing" music with Club Boheme.
